It’s Time!

It is finally time to start buying our season tickets.  We hope to see as many of you as possible in section #144, officially known as the Kings Head Supporter Section.  We are looking for as many people as possible to stand with us (previous supporter section experience is not required).  If you want to come out and have some fun, our section is for you.  And if you want to bring some friends along, even better! For those that don’t know what to expect in a supporter’s section, we recommend reading our post from earlier this year: http://www.redriverrising.ca/2018/04/06/were-here/ Supporters sections work best when ticketing is general admission, because it allows flexibility for executing TIFO and for those who will be more involved on any given day, to move to the front. Since our section will have assigned ‘seating’, here […]

Thanksgiving Reflection

Thanksgiving always make me reflective. As the Winnipeg open trial dates approach, I find myself thinking more about what the launch of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) means to me. I’m a Voyageur to my core, so in a broader sense, the development opportunity for Canadian players is exciting. But this isn’t a new idea; it is the fundamental reason that the league exists. Lately, my thoughts linger on the impact that the league will have for fans. For most of my life, I took for granted how lucky I was to attend many high-level games. Living in Southern Ontario, a two-hour road trip delivered me to several TFC and Canadian National team games each year. I was also within a six-hour drive of two NWSL cities, so I was able to see the Portland Thorns play live four to five times a […]

As Summer Turns to Fall

As the summer slowly fades away, and the leaves turn color as autumn creeps in, one can reflect upon this past summer, as we get closer towards the 2019 inaugural Canadian Premier League season. It began with the official announcement of Winnipeg’s CPL club, Valour FC.  The club’s crest and colors were unveiled on Investors Group Field, the pitch where the team will eventually play. Later in June, Valour FC announced Rob Gale would be the first Head Coach and general manager. The mouth was watering for a local Winnipeg soccer fan, as the road began to next spring. At a Meet the Coach’s night for founding season ticket members at Nicolinos, Rob laid out that his vision for the club was to represent Valour FC’s identity of values: Honour, courage, in the midst of the battle on the pitch. There was also the Valour FC World Cup final viewing party as France battled Croatia. What […]

United For Valour

Winnipeg is a vibrant community, represented by many different cultures and socioeconomic groups.  Since moving to Winnipeg nearly 4 years ago, one of the things that has impressed me the most is how Winnipeg truly reflects Canadian Multiculturalism.  It is only fitting that our city’s soccer club, Valour FC, will have a rich, diverse supporters section to match. Recently some of our members reached out to express concern about a post made in our Facebook group by Route 60 Radicals.  We love your passion and your protectiveness for Red River Rising, Valour’s first and original supporters group.  We agree that the recruitment feel to the end of the post was not ideal.  However, we chose to leave that post up and here is why. We believe that the supporters section should truly represent this community.  While Red River Rising will continue to represent broad support across […]

An Opportunity For All Kids

When the Canadian Premier League released their video story back in April, a few of us were intrigued by the presence of young female players.  It felt to me at least, that the league was signaling intent to eventually launch a women’s division.  While nothing had officially been confirmed, Steven Sandor tweeted in March that a women’s league was coming.  I was cautiously optimistic that a women’s league might not be all that far away. https://twitter.com/stevensandor/status/976999818923974657 The wording that the league and most teams used rubbed me a bit wrong though.  Suggesting Canadian ‘kids’ could now dream about playing pro felt disingenuous when there was (and still is) only a possibility for boys to do so in this country.  At Valour FC’s June 6th launch, Investors Group Field was packed with kids. Roughly half were girls, many adorned in their […]
