As Summer Turns to Fall

As the summer slowly fades away, and the leaves turn color as autumn creeps in, one can reflect upon this past summer, as we get closer towards the 2019 inaugural Canadian Premier League season. It began with the official announcement of Winnipeg’s CPL club, Valour FC.  The club’s crest and colors were unveiled on Investors Group Field, the pitch where the team will eventually play. Later in June, Valour FC announced Rob Gale would be the first Head Coach and general manager. The mouth was watering for a local Winnipeg soccer fan, as the road began to next spring. At a Meet the Coach’s night for founding season ticket members at Nicolinos, Rob laid out that his vision for the club was to represent Valour FC’s identity of values: Honour, courage, in the midst of the battle on the pitch. There was also the Valour FC World Cup final viewing party as France battled Croatia. What […]

United For Valour

Winnipeg is a vibrant community, represented by many different cultures and socioeconomic groups.  Since moving to Winnipeg nearly 4 years ago, one of the things that has impressed me the most is how Winnipeg truly reflects Canadian Multiculturalism.  It is only fitting that our city’s soccer club, Valour FC, will have a rich, diverse supporters section to match. We believe that the supporters section should truly represent this community.  While Red River Rising will continue to represent broad support across […]

An Opportunity For All Kids

When the Canadian Premier League released their video story back in April, a few of us were intrigued by the presence of young female players.  It felt to me at least, that the league was signaling intent to eventually launch a women’s division.  While nothing had officially been confirmed, Steven Sandor tweeted in March that a women’s league was coming.  I was cautiously optimistic that a women’s league might not be all that far away. The wording that the league and most teams used rubbed me a bit wrong though.  Suggesting Canadian ‘kids’ could now dream about playing pro felt disingenuous when there was (and still is) only a possibility for boys to do so in this country.  At Valour FC’s June 6th launch, Investors Group Field was packed with kids. Roughly half were girls, many adorned in their club […]
