When the Canadian Premier League released their video story back in April, a few of us were intrigued by the presence of young female players. It felt to me at least, that the league was signaling intent to eventually launch a women’s division. While nothing had officially been confirmed, Steven Sandor tweeted in March that a women’s league was coming. I was cautiously optimistic that a women’s league might not be all that far away. The wording that the league and most teams used rubbed me a bit wrong though. Suggesting Canadian ‘kids’ could now dream about playing pro felt disingenuous when there was (and still is) only a possibility for boys to do so in this country. At Valour FC’s June 6th launch, Investors Group Field was packed with kids. Roughly half were girls, many adorned in their club […]

Welcome Valour FC!
Today we marched in full song and voice toward Investors Group Field, full of anticipation for the unveiling of our team name and branding. We expected the team name to be Valour FC but we were still eager for confirmation, and couldn’t wait to see our logo. We have been waiting for this moment for more than a year and it did not disappoint. The stadium was packed, and it was gratifying to see that so many others were also excited for the return of Professional Soccer in Winnipeg. There is so much more to come, but we are signing off tonight with a cheer for Valour FC! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Red River Rising (@redriverrisingwpg)
Get Behind the New Tradition
With the tremendous run of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets long playoff run, still fresh in our minds, a new journey within the Winnipeg professional sporting world is set to begin with the Canadian Premier League June 6th. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will announce the team name, colors, and ticket prices. As the “White Out” rallied Winnipeggers for a common cause of seeing the Winnipeg Jets go for a deep playoff run, we as soccer fans of a new professional team in this city can take some inspiration and lessons as we embark on our exciting new journey. The enthusiasm shown by Jets fans during the playoffs is a testament to this city’s passion for supporting their sports teams in both poor and great times. Before the 2017-2018 season, the Winnipeg Jets had only qualified for the playoffs once since returning for […]
