As the days go by, the weather finally getting warmer, the snow melting off the pitch, I can’t help but get excited with anticipation of the 2019 season. With the impending announcements from around the country that are bound to start making news in the coming weeks, we as supporter organizations are in a unique position with the Canadian Premier League and its clubs! I can see the excitement building within Red River Rising, supporters starting to come out to pub nights, concepts of the possible crests, badges, and kits being designed, shared and discussed, it is hard to contain one’s self from feeling like a school aged child waiting for Christmas break. The Winnipeg football club is starting to embrace our organization as well, starting off as a tightly sealed treasure chest holding their cards close to their chest, […]
With the start of the 2019 inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League approaching I thought I would take this opportunity to share my supporting experience while in Europe, and my hope for the new club in Winnipeg. Securing my Ticket In April 2016 I was fortunate enough to secure tickets to an Arsenal match while I was over in England. Now I should say I am a hardcore supporter of Arsenal Football club and have been for over 25 years. As a supporter of Arsenal, you can only get tickets through being a member of an official supporter’s club. After sending a request to Arsenal Canada, it was a few days until I was given the news that the Arsenal North Wiltshire Supporters club had a ticket for me! April 28, 2016: Stadium Tour I will never forget my […]
What is a supporters’ group? At the core, it’s a group of people who have a common goal to lift their team to greatness. In the soccer (football) world that translates to a group that stands behind and with their club no matter what. Supporters’ culture means many things – standing, singing, scarves, flags, smoke, drums. But most of all it means unity. The group united in song, the city united in its support for the team, the team united to win. We asked some of the members of our group what being a supporter means to them. It means starting something from the ground […]

A recent twitter thread by friend to Canadian Soccer @FrTheBlackHole resonated with me. Many of us have passionately engaged in the CPL supporters movement over the last 12 to 18 months. We’ve attended events, hosted meetings, made scarves, and spoken the CPL gospel to anyone who would listen. It has been exciting, and a lot of fun. But as time drags on with very little public news, the weight of the silence has gotten to the best of us. And that made me think. If people actively involved like Rob and I are feeling disappointed, it is no wonder that the people of Winnipeg are sceptical. I get why you might be struggling to believe this is all real. That a professional soccer team is coming to Winnipeg. In this city, there has been no public engagement from the ownership group […]
